From an idea in 2002 to Version 26

A concise timeline. Dates and milestones will continue to be refined from the historical archive.

2002

The project begins

Development starts with the idea of using a PC sound card as a flexible measurement platform.

2004–2007

Early public versions and articles

VA grows into an integrated oscilloscope, spectrum analyser and generator; the first technical articles introduce it to a wider audience.

2007–2008

Dedicated hardware and ZRLC

The Nuova Elettronica interface and the ZRLC work extend VA from audio analysis to component and impedance measurements.

2008–2011

Scientific publications

IMEKO and Elsevier publications document virtual instrumentation and uncertainty-aware measurement methods.

2012–2023

Continuous evolution

New measurement, recording, filtering and analysis functions are added while compatibility with modern Windows systems is maintained.

2024–2026

The Silvia editions and Version 26

A renewed interface, 32/64-bit builds, modern audio APIs, advanced response measurements and many internal improvements mark the latest generation.
